Red Rubber Designs: Mother's Day

Happy Tuesday!

This week the Red Rubber Design Team is posting Mother's Day cards or projects. It is that time of the year to start thinking about it, especially if you need to order some supplies.

Today, I used Mother's Face which is a beautiful poem or ode to mothers and Majestic Mountain because the poem refers to flowers, majestic mountains, forests, fields and streams.  I thought the 2 images were perfect for each other.
I started with some Aspen (golden colored) cardstock from the Natural cardstock assortment.  I stamped the Majestic Mountain scene with Water Lilly Palette ink which is part of the Monet cube set.  I actually inked up the stamp and stamped on some white paper first then stamped on the Aspen cardstock.  This gave the near perfect shade of blue-green to match the Hemmingway patterned cardstock.

Then with Burnt Umber Palette ink (part of the Escher cube set) I inked the Mother's face stamp and stamped over the Majestic Mountain image.  I used embossing ink and covered the stamp image with clear embossing powder.  I embossed the entire image and repeated with 2 more layers.  You can see that I cracked it only a couple times.
This is a picture of my second try - the first one I did 6 layers of clear embossing powder and I shattered it totally.  It was really hard to see the mountain scene and read the verse so I redid it with less layers and less cracking.  Although the shattered glass affect was really cool.  Note - if you put it in the freezer for a bit it really cracks well.  I got that tip from Meredith who reminded me of this fun technique in her post last week.  Thanks Meredith!

There lots of layering with this card - 9 - it is actually very front heavy. I used 3 cardstock papers from Hemmingway, the teal, dark brown and diamond pattern. Added some lovely lace and some amber rhinestones (gems and diamonds are also mentioned in the poem) to complete the Mother's Day card.

Overall, I think it all came together nicely.  I think my mom or mother-in-law would love this card.
